Cry it out versus feeding during the night? 2 Years, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
This seems to be a big dilemma with new mothers, whether to feed your baby during the night when he or she cries, or to let them "cry it out."

The thought of doing a full cry it out routine for an hour or more sounds heart-wrenching, and we cannot bring ourselves to do it!

There must be some happy middle ground, thoughts?

Crying it out was the bane of our existence! Our poor little girl never adjusted to all the crying, and we never adjusted to leaving her alone for so long!

So we gave up on CIO and then she started sleeping through the night about 4-6 weeks later (around 8 months). She's 11 months now and sleeps through the night about 80% of the time. When she doesn't, she usually goes back down to sleep pretty easily if we feed her a bottle (or my wife breast feeds her).

So personally I think the whole cry it out system is somewhat cruel for both the babies and the parents, especially when after trying it for a couple weeks it doesn't even work!

I think the best technique is somewhere in between what is recommended by the Ferber method and what is recommended by Dr. Sears.
